2001 Rod & Custom Magazine’s "Americruise" Makes for Hot Cars and Cool Fun! More than 2,500 pre-1964 street rods and pre-1972 classic trucks cruised across America’s heartland as Chevrolet presented the 9th annual Rod & Custom magazine "Americruise", sponsored by CHROME Specialty Auto Insurance and T.O. Haas Tire, July 27-29 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Three organized tour routes gained momentum as street-rod enthusiasts joined in from states all across the U.S. to be a part of this unique hot-rodding extravaganza. Tour One, sponsored by Carriage Works from Grandview, Missouri, started its kick-off party at Regency Conversion in Fort Worth, Texas with a catered BBQ. Tour Two, sponsored by Summit Racing, started its kick-off out of their Talmadge, Ohio high-performance parts mail-order world headquarters. Tour Three, sponsored by Chevrolet, started its kick-off with a tour of the historical NHRA Drag Racing Museum in Pomona, California. Collectively, these Americruise hot-rodding enthusiasts cruised across the country to their final destination, Lincoln, Nebraska. On Friday night the City of Lincoln designated a 19-mile parade tour route with Police escort as over 15,000 spectators gathered along the route to watch over 1,700 custom rods and trucks strut their stuff! The beautiful Americruise spokesmodels, sponsored by Ravin Exhaust, were onsite throughout the weekend and assisted with the awards ceremony. In addition to more than 100 automotive parts and collectable exhibits on display, industry pros were on hand to provide technical tips and tricks of the trade. While participants got their hands dirty with the T. O. Haas engine building competition, power enthusiasts stood in line to boast their horsepower with the performance chassis dyno. The always entertaining antique tractor pulling demonstration and huge craft fair were just some of the other non-stop activities that filled this incredible weekend. While Americruise sponsor, T.O. Hass Tire, treated everyone to a free concert on Saturday night, all participants were treated to a free BBQ dinner. Once again, the Lancaster Lincoln Convention Bureau sponsored the Sunday morning free breakfast to all participants. Concluding the event was a 350 HO deluxe Chevrolet crate motor giveaway. After the show several Americruisers headed over to Speedway Motors for an Epilogue Tour to the Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky. With over 2,500 participant vehicles and over 40,000 spectators, Rod & Custom magazine’s "Americruise" is a must attend event! Event Director, Gary Case says, "Rod & Custom magazine’s ‘Americruise’ continues to shatter records with participants, sponsors, and local Lincoln residences and businesses alike. Exciting new tour routes are already in progress and we look forward to once again returning to Lincoln next year, June 28 - 30."
